Choose how sources are shown

Citations are what make answers checkable. Two switches control what customers see.

Four steps

  1. Open Sources

    Choose Assistant in the sidebar and scroll to Sources.

  2. Show sources under answers

    With Show sources under answers on, customers see which page each claim came from.

  3. Let customers open source files

    With Let customers open source files on, cited PDFs and documents open at the cited page. Leave it off if your files are internal and you'd rather customers only see the quoted passage.

    Articles always open in your help center, whatever this switch says.

  4. Save

    Choose Save changes.

You're done when

The playground shows numbered sources under its answers, and opening one behaves the way you chose.

If something's not right

Customers can't open a cited PDF

Let customers open source files is off. Turn it on, or turn the content into an article, which always opens.
