Troubleshooting

The widget isn't showing

3 min readUpdated 18 Oct 2026

What you're seeing

  • No launcher on your site after adding the snippet.
  • The widget opens but says it isn't available, or questions get no answer.

Check these in order

  1. Is the widget switched on?

Open Widget in the sidebar. Widget on must be on, and saved. If that fixed it, you're done.

  2. Is your domain under Allowed sites?

The widget only answers on the domains you list. Add the exact domain you're testing on (staging and localhost count as separate domains). See Allowed sites. If that fixed it, you're done.

  3. Is the snippet on the page?

View the page's source and search for widget.js. The tag must carry your data-key, and should sit just before </body>. In a single-page app, check it's in the HTML that's served, not only added in a component that may not render. If that fixed it, you're done.

  4. Does your site block outside scripts or frames?

A Content Security Policy can block the widget. Allow https://pagetruth.com in script-src and frame-src. Your browser's console shows a "Refused to load" message when this is the cause. If that fixed it, you're done.

  5. Are you using Inline or a hidden launcher?

Inline needs a <div data-pagetruth></div> where it should render. With data-launcher="false", nothing shows until your code calls PageTruth.open(). If that fixed it, you're done.

  6. Has your account run out of answers?

When answers run out, customers see your hand-off button instead of an answer. Check Answers left on Billing. If that fixed it, you're done.

Still happening?

Write to hello@pagetruth.com with the page address where the widget should appear and the knowledge base's name. A screenshot of the browser console helps.
